Client: Liquid 11 Marine
Date: 11th December 2014
The Client: “Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to make flies and maggots somehow look friendly, appealing… even cute.”
Okay, the brief might not have sounded quite so dramatic but that isn’t far off. After what must have been a completely puzzled expression on my face and maybe a few strangled noises, the answer was, “Challenge accepted!”
Liquid 11 Marine is a company entering into the newly emerging business of recycling bio-degradable waste using flies and maggots, and turning that waste into energy and possibly even a food source. This document was to help explain the process and in order to make it much more friendly and appealing, it was decided to go down an illustrated route.
The slightly deranged looking fly at the bottom of this page, the one with the big teeth, was my first attempt. However, it was pointed out to me that he wasn’t quite cute enough and the breed of fly being used had no teeth. Therefore it was back to the drawing board and the second fly was born… hatched… drawn.
This project was a great deal of fun and I am very pleased with the finished result.
